Profession/short description of work and responsibilities in present position:

  • AsspciateProfessor at the University of Athens.
  • Teaching Byzantine Literature
  • General Secretary of “Parnassos Literary Society” (Athens), the oldest cultural Association in Greece.

Biographical notes (including degrees, positions held, important publications):

  • 1966-1972: Elementary School (Grade A)
  • 1972- 1978: “lonideios” High School of Piraeus.(Grade of High School Diploma: Very Good)
  • 1974- 1979: Attended School of Music of Piraeus. Received Diploma in Byzantine Music
  • 1978-1983: University of Athens. Faculty of Philosophy. Received B.A. in Greek Literature. (Grade A). During the first two years I was awarded a State Scholarship.
  • 1983 Summer: Under a scholarship of the Belgian Government I studied French Literature at “Universite Libre de Bruxelles”.
  • 1983- 1985: Under a scholarship from the “A.S. ONASSIS FOUNDATION” I studied at the “Institute of Eastern Studies” (Universite Catholique de Louvain) and received the “Diploma in Literature and History of the East”. I also specialized in Paleography and Textual Editions and became familiar with the new electronic methods of text processing at the “CENTRE DE TRAITEMENT ELECTRONIQUE DE DOCUMENTS” of the above University. I presented papers relating to the Slavonic translations of the Greek scriptures, the relationship between Byzantium and Islam, the institution of Monasticism in Byzantium and the genuiness of St. Basil’s Epistles. My Professors included: J. MOSSAY, A. DE HALLEUX, S. VAN RIET and G. JUCQOUOIS. During my studies there I took part in the international program for the publication of the complete works of Gregory of Nazianzus (LOUVAIN - LA - NEUVE - MUNSTER).
  • 1985 - 1987: Under a scholarship by the COMITE CATHOLIQUE POUR LA COLLABORATION CULTURELLE of the Vatican I worked on my thesis. I examined manuscripts at the following libraries: NATIONAL LIBRARY OF FRANCE (PARIS), BRITISH LIBRARY (LONDON), BODLEIAN (OXFORD), ROYAL and BOLLANDIANA (BRUSSELS), UNIVERSITY LIBRARY OF LIEDEN, UNIVERSITY LIBRARY OF COLOGNE and NATIONAL LIBRARY OF GREECE. I also studied a number of microfilms at the INSTITUT DE RECHERCHE ET D’HISTOIRE DES TEXTES (PARIS).
  • 8.1.1987: I submitted my thesis to the University of Athens and I received my Doctorate Degree (Grade “A”).
  • 1987 - 1988: I served in the Greek Navy .
  • 1989: Under a fellowship by the Dumbarton Oaks Center for Byzantine Studies I worked on the edition of the Byzantine Greek Lexica.
